2027 Theme: The Long Arm of Early Life and Biological Aging
There is growing evidence that early life exposures, conditions, and experiences ─ in the womb, the family, neighborhoods, schools, social relationships, and elsewhere ─ play a large role in shaping longevity and later life health, cognition, and well-being. Research in this area calls for multidisciplinary perspectives, often employs cutting edge research methods, and typically relies on just a few key data resources that have requisite information about people across nearly their entire lives.
The 2027 NIA Demography & Economics of Aging and ADRD Annual Workshop invites research that examines how one or more aspects of early life shape later-life aging-related outcomes. We encourage the submission of research featuring multidisciplinary perspectives and the use of data that describe the whole life course (such as the HRS’s Life History data; EdSHARe data; historical U.S. census records linked to the HRS, WLS, or NSHAP; or the British Cohort Studies). The workshop will feature research on a variety of types of early life exposures, conditions, and experiences (i.e., environmental, social, institutional) and a variety of types of later life outcomes (e.g., cognition and ADRD risk, longevity, chronic health).
Abstract Submission Guidelines
We invite two types of submissions:
- Research presentations should be currently at the working paper stage or will be by the time of the conference. This is a traditional conference presentation.
- Early-stage research track should showcase research projects that are in the initial phases: formalizing data and methodological approaches and still seeking funding or preparing to seek funding. Our goal is for the workshop to facilitate valuable feedback to these investigators to move projects forward or even connect with potential collaborators or ideas for funding.
