This half-day, virtual workshop will convene experts in aging, cognition, nutrition, and social determinants of health to assess the current state of the science on food insecurity and cognitive health, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). Given recent advances in data availability and analytic approaches, this workshop will evaluate how close the field is to consensus, identify critical knowledge gaps, and highlight barriers to progress such as measurement challenges and data limitations.

The Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study is a collaboration between the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The PATH Study is a large, household-based, nationally representative, longitudinal cohort study of adults and youth (ages 12-17) in the United States.

The purpose of this one-day virtual workshop is to bring together experts in the field to include current NIH grantees and future NIH applicants focused on the GUIDE model and/or other comprehensive dementia care models.

This virtual workshop will bring together leading investigators in spatial cognition and navigation research to foster cross-disciplinary dialogue and catalyze innovative collaborations.

This will be the inaugural seminar in a new monthly DECC/GECC webinar series focused on topics of interest to the DECC community, including measurements of cognition, accessibility, heat, and stress. The webinar series aims to share opportunities, resources, and methods that support and enable innovative and interdisciplinary research.

Declining fertility and the resulting aging of a nation’s population can affect a number of macroeconomic outcomes. By slowing labor force growth, it can reduce GDP, increase wages, reduce firm entry, and lower innovative activity. By increasing the demand for assets, it can reduce interest rates and raise capital intensity and labor productivity. Population aging can also strain public finances by increasing per capita government expenditure and reducing tax receipts, leading to higher levels of debt in the short run and requiring a fiscal adjustment in the long run. In these and other ways, population aging can affect economic wellbeing and on the distribution of income. The net impact will differ from country to country, depending on demographics, institutions, and policies.

The Science of Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) for Social Scientists Program is a unique two-day series of lectures featuring nationally recognized clinical, biomedical and other interdisciplinary experts in the AD/ADRD field. Experts deliver scientific lectures tailored to social scientists, covering advances in biomarkers, therapeutics, disease pathology, clinical care models, among others. The two-day program will take place at USC’s University Park Campus in Los Angeles, California. The application deadline is Friday, July 31, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. PT.
